  1.             OPTi 82c93x Windows NT Audio Driver LATEST INFORMATION

  5.      This is the OPTi 82c930, 82c931 audio driver release for Windows NT 
  6.      version 3.51. Throughout this readme file, 82c93x refers to 82c930, 
  7.      and 82c931.

  9.      This Windows NT driver provides the following support for OPTi 82c93x-
  10.      based sound card:
  11.         Wave playback/capture
  12.         Midi playback
  13.         Mic recording
  14.         Volume control      
  15.         Driver installation/configuration
  16.         IDE CD-ROM support
  17.  
  18. 0.  What is new in this release
  19.  
  20.      This release contains the following additional features and supports 
  21.      to the previous release v1.00,   
  22.  
  23.      - Provide support for OPTi 82c931 audio sound chip.
  24.      - SND930.DLL is renamed to SND93x.DLL   
  25.      - SND930.SYS is renamed to SND93x.SYS   
  26.      - SNDINIT.SYS is renamed to SND3INIT.SYS   
  27.      - Shows a Messagebox to prompt user to close Volume controls 
  28.        and audio application when Driver Configuration fails.

  30. 1.  SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS
  31.  
  32.      The OPTi 82c93x Windows NT Audio Driver installation package contains 
  33.      the following files:
  34.  
  35.           - OEMSETUP.INF - Windows NT driver installation text file 
  36.           - SND93x.DLL   - Windows NT user mode driver for OPTi 82c93x.
  37.           - SND93x.SYS   - Windows NT kernel mode driver for OPTi 82c93x.
  38.           - SND3INIT.SYS - Windows NT kernel mode driver for setting OPTi 
  39.                            82c93x on-board IDE CD-ROM interface.
  40.           - MIDIMAP.CFG  - Midi Mapper for OPTi93x.    
  41.           - README.NT    - This help file.

  44. 2.  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  45.  
  46.      The installation process assumes that Windows NT v3.51 has been installed.
  47.      Refer to documents for Windows NT installation. 
  48.    
  49.      Step 1:   
  50.         Insert OPTi 82c93x sound card in the system. Refer to your menu for
  51.         proper sound card hardware installation.
  52.  
  53.      Step 2:           
  54.         Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. Windows NT audio 
  55.         driver can't be installed or modified unless Windows NT is started 
  56.         in Adminstrator mode.
  57.         
  58.      Step 3:
  59.         Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window.
  60.         Remove all of the following previously installed audio drivers:
  61.                 Windows Sound System
  62.                 OPTi 82c93x
  63.         Restart system.
  64.  
  65.      Step 4:
  66.         Start Windows NT in Administrator mode. 
  67.         Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window.
  68.         Choose the Add button in the Drivers dialog box.
  69.         Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and choose the OK button.
  70.         Insert the OPTi 82c93x Windows NT installation diskette in floppy 
  71.         drive and choose the OK button.

  73.      Step 5:
  74.         A setup dialog box will appear.
  75.  
  76.         Select the I/O address, Interrupt, and DMA for OPTi 82c93x.
  77.         Choose the CD-ROM Interface Settings for selecting whether to enable
  78.         or disable the on-board IDE CD-ROM interface. Please note OPTi 931
  79.         MB version has no IDE CD-ROM support.

  81.         Choose the OK button when you finish selecting the settings.

  83.      Step 6:   
  84.         Choose the Restart Now button to have the new driver and any changed
  85.         driver settings to take effect when Windows NT restart.

  88. 3. CHANGING DRIVER SETTINGS AFTER INSTALLATION
  89.      
  90.      Driver settings can be changed after installation.
  91.  
  92.      Step 1:   
  93.         Logged on Windows NT in Administrator mode. 
  94.  
  95.      Step 2:
  96.         Choose the Drivers icon in the Control Panel Window.
  97.         Select OPTi 82c93x in Installed Drivers Dialog box.
  98.         Choose Setup button.
  99.  
  100.      Follows Step 5 and 6 of INSTALLATION PROCESS above.

  103. 4. INSTALLATION DETAILS
  104.  
  105.      The Windows NT driver installation does the following:
  106.  
  107.      - Copy files to your hard disk. 
  108.         SND93x.SYS, SND93x.DLL, SNDINIT.SYS and README.NT are 
  109.         copied to the NT system directories.
  110.      - Create/Update configuration information in the registry
  111.         The following two Keys are created in the registry under 
  112.         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services path:
  113.                 snd93x
  114.                 sndinit
  115.      - Reboot system.

  117. 5. CD-ROM INSTALLATION NOTES
  118.  
  119.      Please note that OPTi 82c931 MB version has no IDE CD-ROM support. 
  120.      OPTi 82c931 AD version has IDE CD-ROM support.      
  121.  
  122.      The CD-ROM Interface Settings in driver setup provides the choice of 
  123.      enable or disable the 82c93x on board IDE CD-ROM interface (Default to
  124.      disabled).  It DOESN'T install the NT IDE CD-ROM driver. 
  125.      It's your responsibility to install the NT IDE-CD ROM driver.   
  126.         
  127.      To install an IDE CD-ROM drive that is connected to 82c93x:
  128.  
  129.      - Make sure there is no secondary IDE port that is enabled on 
  130.        your system motherboard or another add-on card.
  131.      - Choose "Enable IDE CD-ROM Interface" check box. This instructs the 
  132.        kernel mode driver sndinit.sys to enable the 82c93x on board
  133.        secondary IDE port 170h and IRQ15 upon NT boot time.
  134.      - To install the Windows NT IDE CD-ROM driver (ATAPI.SYS), please refer
  135.        to the Windows NT System Guide.
